Palencia Dental treats sports minded patients who suffer from jaw and neck pain, teeth injuries, and TMJ

saint-augustine-dentist-stephanie-kinsey-2016-2017-newSt. Augustine, Fla. –  May 23, 2017 – Stephanie Kinsey, DDS, owner and founder of Palencia Dental in St. Augustine, Fla., is seeing more adult and teen patients who are active sports enthusiasts and assuming a more health-conscious lifestyle. Sports activities in the local area range from surfing to baseball and softball, and horseback riding to tennis, to golf, along with a myriad of other outdoor activities. active patients are requiring an increase in sports and neuromuscular dentistry treatment, prevention, and education to reduce pain and improve poor postures, form, and performance. Using dentistry methods, Dr. Kinsey can help patients to reduce impact and injury and provide treatments to create a pain-free sports lifestyle.

For example, the force of a direct blow can impact the jaw positioning and transfer of impact to the brain. The prevalence and severity of injuries to the teeth, jaws and intra-oral and peri-oral soft tissues, concussions and neck injuries may be reduced as dentists play a more proactive role in helping to deliver expanded dental treatments and procedures.

“The main goals of sports and neuromuscular dentistry include prevention and treatment of sports related dental and orofacial injuries, plus information collection from the patient and knowledge about preventive procedures related to injuries specifics,” said Dr. Kinsey. “Our diagnostics combine dentistry, prevention and neuromuscular skills to protect the athlete from injures which may include oral lacerations, abrasions and contusions, tooth intrusions, and root loss of one or several teeth,” she said. “Some of the most prevalent problems include temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) injuries and disorders. The effect of the force or injury with TMJ patients can be dissipated and modified by surrounding muscles, ligaments, and teeth and jaw adjustments, plus bite management.”

Dr. Kinsey can also provide a variety of modernized shielding equipment with a variety of customized mouth guards, and she can recommend current facemasks and helmets that may be helpful.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Kinsey has specialized in treating patients who suffer from jaw pain and TMJ with neuromuscular relaxation methods that involve muscles in the face, jaw, and neck which are some of the most used muscles in the body. “Because of constant use and a high propensity for stress to affect these muscles, most people experience tension, nerve pinching, and even a buildup of toxins in these areas,” she said. “However, with neuromuscular treatment, all of these problems are addressed and corrected by releasing tension and aligning the jaw. Sometimes, to get muscles in relaxed and proper position is often difficult as our bodies naturally form their own tension spots and misalignments.”

Part of Dr. Kinsey’s neuromuscular treatment is to relax the muscles of the neck and face, which has a ripple effect on the muscles throughout the body. As the body can easily become misaligned in the hips, shoulders, and other areas of the body, patients can be affected by neuromuscular problems in the jaw and neck. According to Dr. Kinsey, with help, athletes and sports enthusiasts can feel more confident and may be less likely to sustain injuries, thereby gaining a competitive edge.

Dr. Kinsey is a Fellow with The International Association of Physiologic Aesthetics (IAPA) and serves as a member and Fellow with IAPA’s founding organization, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). She specializes in cosmetic, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), and general dentistry, and is dedicated to restoring and enhancing the natural beauty of one’s smile by combining conservative and state-of-the-art procedures along with advanced dental medicine. Palencia Dental transforms local teen’s lives with new dental alignment methods

saint-augustine-dentist-stephanie-kinsey-2016-2017St. Augustine, Fla. –  May 23, 2017 – Stephanie Kinsey, DDS, owner and founder of Palencia Dental in St. Augustine, Fla., has introduced a new technologically-advanced procedure for teens at her practice using a unique treatment Invisalign®. The clear aligners are considered by orthodontists as the most advanced method to uniquely design a treatment around teen patients to reveal their best smiles. According to Dr. Kinsey, teens are twice as likely to have higher self-esteem throughout the new virtually invisible treatment compared to traditional metal braces, while providing a better overall experience in shaping a young person’s unique smile.

“The proven effective methods in the hands of an experienced dentist can be used to treat simple to complex teeth straightening cases,” said Dr. Kinsey. “We can now transform teen’s smiles up to 50 percent faster than conventional braces. The proprietary innovations and materials provide more predictable movements while making shorter treatment times possible, so teens can get to their best smile sooner,” she said. “The summertime is perfect for teens and their parents to be available while starting and adjusting to treatment before school begins again.”

Dr. Kinsey advises that Invisalign is more affordable than many may realize and similar to braces. Plus, orthodontic insurance may cover up to $3,500 of treatment costs. The methods used include a detailed and precise treatment plan, and the exact movements of the teeth along with how long treatment will be. Patients get to see how their teeth will move and preview their new smile. Custom-made aligners are virtually invisible, so most patients won’t even see the clear aligners which must be in place from 20 to 22 hours a day for the best results while taking them out to eat and to brush and floss.

As each set of aligners are in place, teeth will gently and gradually shift into place. Dr. Kinsey may recommend that teens begin wearing a new set of aligners every week and schedule check-ups approximately every six weeks. After care can require a retainer which is custom-made using the same state-of-the-art technology as Invisalign.

Specifically, the new method can effectively treat a wide variety of cases, including crowding, spacing, crossbite, overbite and underbite with virtually invisible teeth-straightening. Patients can eat whatever foods they enjoy. And, the device can be removed anytime. Brushing and flossing teeth normally is highly recommended for better periodontal health.

The appliances consist of smooth, comfortable plastic instead of traditional braces with sharp metal that are more likely to irritate cheeks and gums. With the new method, office visits run every four to six weeks and six free replacement aligners are included if lost or broken. The built-in assurance that the device is working properly includes blue compliance indicator dots that help teens and parents monitor progress throughout treatment, ensuring the best smile.

“We are seeing more teens and their families consider the new method instead of using regular braces, or even other invisible braces that still use brackets,” said Dr. Kinsey. “Ultimately, teeth straightening is a choice. However, if left untreated, many orthodontic issues can often lead to more serious dental and health issues. There are many health benefits of straighter teeth and a proper bite.”

Palencia Dental introduces new non-surgical laser light procedures for removal of tattoos, scars, and hair, and neck rejuvenation

Stephanie Kinsey, DDS, owner and founder of Palencia Dental in St. Augustine, Fla., has introduced several new procedures at her practice utilizing non-surgical lasers developed by Fotona Lasers and Dr. Harvey Shiffman of Boynton Dental Laser Center in Boynton Beach, Fla. Dr. Kinsey recently returned from advanced training with Dr. Shiffman and will utilize specialized treatments in facial rejuvenation, tooth whitening, tattoo, hair and scar removal, and neck rejuvenation, among others.

With the new laser procedures, Dr. Kinsey continues to rapidly advance the methods of aesthetics and cosmetic dental improvements for patients, especially those who request a more youthful appearance. Dr. Kinsey and her team of professionals are renowned for promoting patient comfort, reducing visit length, and improving results with new solutions. “We have researched some of the most requested procedures in laser healthcare before introduction to our patients,” said Dr. Kinsey. “For example, some of the visual and emotional issues involved with tattoo removal include specialized staff training and appreciation for each patient while ensuring that we can restore and enhance the natural beauty of every individual,” she said. According to Dr. Kinsey, some tattoos and scars were once considered permanent, but it is now possible to remove them from the face with laser treatments either fully or partially.

In addition to the new laser capabilities, Dr. Kinsey utilizes the procedures for facial spider veins and visible broken blood vessels, and neck rejuvenation for the common turkey neck or waddle which is prevalent in aging populations and in those who are genetically inclined to the formation of jowls and loose skin. Coarse, dark hair on the face can also be removed with the new laser frequencies.

Dr. Kinsey continues to use Smoothlase and Liplase laser therapy for facial and lip rejuvenation treatments at the dental practice. “There are no shots, burning, or down time experienced during the treatments which are done within the mouth and some topically,” said Dr. Kinsey. “The procedures are also designed to restore skin moisture, elasticity and thickness along with wrinkle prevention and reducing the appearance of sagging skin, fine lines and hyperpigmentation,” she said. “The non-surgical laser lip enhancement treatment is very popular with patients who want to plump the lips with gentle laser light energy to stimulate natural collagen, a protein fiber found abundantly throughout the body.” For more information, visit the website at www.palenciadental.com.

Palencia Dental introduces new non-surgical, non-appliance snoring therapy with gentle laser light energy

St. Augustine, Fla. –  November 8, 2016– Stephanie Kinsey, DDS, owner and founder of Palencia Dental in St. Augustine, Fla., has introduced a new technologically-advanced procedure at her practice including NightLase® therapy which uses gentle laser light energy for symptoms due to snoring and sleep apnea.

Dr. Kinsey and her team of dental professionals are renowned for increasing patient comfort, reducing visit length, and improving results. With the new laser procedure, Dr. Kinsey, continues to rapidly advance the methods of treatment which is a patent-pending, fast, non-invasive treatment designed to increase the quality of a patient’s sleep. NightLase lessens the effects of sleep apnea and decreases the severity of snoring through the use of gentle, superficial, Erbium, a YAG laser light. According to Dr. Kinsey, it is estimated that there are millions of snorers in the U.S. Of these, about one-third are affected by sleep apnea.

“The NightLase treatment causes a tightening of the tissue and leads to a reduction in the sound of the patients snoring and a lessening of the affects of sleep apnea,” said Dr. Kinsey. “NightLase requires no device to be worn during sleep, and involves no chemical treatment and no anesthesia,” she said. “This is a non-surgical procedure and a gentle and easy way for patients and their loved ones to regain a good night sleep.”

Dr. Kinsey added, as many relationships are destroyed or stressed due to snoring, the condition can also cause cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, stroke, sleepiness and fatigue during the day, morning headaches, impotence in men, and depression. However, many pregnant women suffer from snoring during the last three months. This form of snoring usually disappears by itself and should not be treated.

Some steps to reduce snoring include weight loss if you are overweight, avoid eating large meals and drinking alcohol before bedtime, avoid highly-caffeinated energy drinks, and be aware of surgical treatments that involve hospitalization, general anesthesia, pain and prolonged healing.

In summary, laser energy has been used both in pure medical applications and cosmetic treatments for decades. The NightLase treatment was developed on this idea and proved to be very effective and virtually painless with a tightening of the tissue in the throat to prevent snoring and apnea problems. Two or three treatments may be needed, each about 30 minutes. Then, eating, drinking, and talking may be resumed. The patient can live a completely normal life immediately after the virtually painless treatment without painful surgical procedures with long convalescence times which are the currently offered options along with occlusal splints, oxygen masks or other inconvenient and impractical equipment needed at night.
