Why Straighten Teeth?

Straighter teeth look better, help you with chewing, biting and even speaking.

A beautiful, straight smile helps to boost your confidence, is more pleasing to look at, and can help prevent a wide variety of dental problems. Dr. Kinsey can help you fix many issues including overbite, underbite, crossbite, and overcrowding.  All of these alignment problems negatively impact the functionality and cosmetic appearance of the teeth.

Crooked teeth can lead to:

Periodontitis –  or gum disease starts with a bacterial infection, caused by inadequate oral hygiene.  Crooked teeth are hard to clean which means that debris, plaque and bacteria can build up in hard-to-reach areas.  Straight teeth are much easier to clean and you have less chance of contracting gum disease.

TMJ (Temporomandibular Disorder) – Crooked teeth can lead to improper jaw alignment, which then causes a painful condition known as TMJ.  Severe headaches, jaw pain, and the grinding of teeth characterize this debilitating disorder.

Tooth injuries – Straight teeth creates a stronger wall, which means injuries are less likely to occur.  Crooked teeth can be weaker, making them far more vulnerable to injuries.

Uneven wear – Crooked teeth can make some of your other teeth work harder when biting and chewing.

Here at Palencia Dental, we can show you how your teeth can be straightened using either orthodontic braces or customized aligning trays.  Orthodontic braces are usually affixed to the teeth for a definite time period.  The braces are tightened regularly by Dr. Kinsey and removed when your treatment is completed.  Fixed braces can be placed on the front side or back side of the teeth and are effective for most types of issues.

Aligning trays are fully removable and are used where the problem is less severe.  The trays are replaced every few weeks until your treatment is completed, and have proven to be equally effective for straightening teeth.
